May
it be automotive, aerospace, biotechnology, energy conversion – mechanical
engineering is just about everywhere. Looking at the widespread use and
importance of it in our life, it comes as no surprise that the field of
mechanical engineering has been greatly impacted by digitization.

Digitization in mechanical engineering has been steadily increasing to improve the field’s productivity and performance. From the designing phase to manufacturing to user experience modern technology has been a boon for mechanical engineers. Below we look 4 technologies that have significantly influenced Mechanical Designing and engineering:

CAD:

Computer-aided designs have facilitated a better designing of
products, components, parts, systems, tools and fixtures. CAD can provide end
to end solutions from designing to manufacturing as well as advertising and
technical manuals. Not only is CAD better, faster and more cost effective it
allows to convey many types of information like dimensions, material
information etc. Its enhanced 3D visualization is essential for both engineers
and manufacturers to spot information. CAD has also cut back on the time
required for designing by allowing easy modification and corrections. Moreover,
the cloud based collaborative approach of CAD makes it easy to share the file
with all the stakeholders involved in the project. From saving data and
drawings for future to cost optimization and agile working, CAD has completely
changed the approach of Mechanical engineering.

Virtual Reality:

Virtual Reality is a computer-generated display of reality in real time, here the person via their headset is completely immersed into a simulated world. By using VR with Mechanical Design Services designers and engineers can better visualize and communicate their design intent to their clients. The client in turn can look at the finished design of any product, part, system and also with the variety of available commands can change the body, the color or even take a cross-section of the component. This allows them to gain a proper insight and choose the final design they like from multiple options.

Augmented Reality:

There is subtle difference between Virtual reality and augmented reality. Augmented Reality is the computer aided enhancement of reality. AR can be used along with CAD to showcase how a design will look in real world. Along with this AR is also applied in the actual manufacturing process for quality control, inspection, for training and maintenance etc.

3D laser Scanning:

3D laser Scanning has been useful for reverse engineering process. The issue with certain components or products is that they may not always be easy to disassemble or at times the shape of the component may not allow to take exact measurements. It is here Reverse Engineering Services makes use of a 3D laser scanner to capture the component or a products precise shape and dimensions. Then using 3D measurements and images one can deconstruct the whole component and use it according the project requirements. Laser scanning not just makes the process of reverse engineering faster and simpler it removes the inaccuracy and estimation based hardship of measuring inconsistently shaped components. It also minimizes the need for manual deconstruction and provides precise diagrams and measurements. Moreover, the advancements in modern technology has made 3D laser scanners smaller, cheaper and more convenient for instance the LiDAR scanner in Phone 12 Pro which can be used to get instant 3D scans.

Conclusion:

Digitization has enabled the mechanical engineers to streamline their designing and manufacturing process. As new technological inventions keep happening the field of mechanical engineering is only going to advancing for the better.

Mechanical engineering is perhaps one of the most versatile engineering fields as it touches virtually every aspect of our human life.
